Mae Carol Jemison

(Oct. 17, 1956 - )
A physician and former NASA astronaut, she was the first Black woman to travel in space. She was co-investigator for the bone cell research experiment to study the effects of space flight on bone cell function aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1992. She started her own company in 1993, the Jemison Group, and founded the Dorothy Jemison Foundation for Excellence, named in honor of her mother.
