Elijah J. McCoy

(May 2, 1843 - Oct. 10, 1929)
An Afro-Canadian inventor and engineer known for his many US patents. He invented an automatic lubricator for oiling the steam engines of locomotives and boats and continued to refine his inventions and design new ones. Evenutally he obtained 57 patents mostly related to lubrication. But his inventions also included a folding ironing board and a lawn sprinkler.
