My area of expertise is in biocultural medical anthropology with a focus on several varieties of health and wellness issues. I was trained in the four-field approach throughout my studies and I use a combination of biological and cultural methods and theory in my fieldwork. I have studied HIV/AIDS among minorities in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (Master’s thesis), and pregnancy and birth among women in Central Florida (Ph.D. dissertation). My postdoctoral work focused on pain and health disparities in a clinical and community setting in Florida.

Future research I hope to undertake in my new position as an assistant professor at the University of South Carolina will focus on Community Based Participatory Research in Latino/a communities in the Southeastern United States and their correlate groups in Mexico/Caribbean to determine the factors that are associated with the decline in health outcomes of women and their infants as more time is spent in the United States.
