THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION OF THE SEIBELS KITCHEN, COLUMBIA SC

What is new about the Seibels Kitchen?

Currently, archaeologists and historians at the University of South Carolina and Historic Columbia Foundation are investigating a brick structure found in the southern chamber of the detached kitchen.  The location in which the kitchen sits has a history that is not documented in written texts.  The kitchen was constructed around the 1830s according to last year's excavation; however, the main house was constructed about 1796.  Therefore, there would have been 30 years without a kitchen, or at least the kitchen that we see today.

So what do you think this structure might be?
