Graduate Admissions
The following are guidelines. It is recognized
that each student is unique and applicants are considered on an individual
basis. The deadline for being considered for the first round
of TA appointments is February 1. Applications received after
that date may be placed on the waiting list. Admission
Requirements for the M.A. In addition, successful applicants
will generally hold a BA degree in literature or related subject,
and have achieved graduate level competence in at least one foreign
language.
Additional admission requirements for the Ph.D.
Applicants should have a 3.0 GPA in their undergraduate major and
a 3.5 GPA in graduate course work. They should have significant
course work in at least one foreign language and a minimum of 480
on verbal and 4.0 on the analytical sections of the GRE (400 and
3.5 for nonnative speakers). Applicants are asked to submit a writing
sample of 3000 words and a statement of purpose (300 words maximum).
