Dr. Warehime’s primary area of research is
19th and 20th century French literature and culture.
This includes special interests in literature and the arts, notably photography
and film. Her book on the photographer Brassai, Images of Culture and
the Surrealist Observer, LSU Press 1996, examines the connections between
photography and French culture in the 30’s. A book on Maurice Pialat for Manchester UP (2006) analyzes the work of one of the most gifted directors of the post New Wave period. Pialat’s particular form of realism influenced an entire generation of young filmmakers in the 90s. She has published articles on
French literature and the arts in periodicals such as The French Review
, Sub-Stance, French Forum, Studies in 20th
Century Literature and Oxford French Studies. She regularly teaches a survey of French cinema
on the undergraduate level and has developed an introduction to contemporary
French film for graduate students.
