| Welcome to the graduate programs of the DEPARTMENT OF LANGUAGES, LITERATURES & CULTURES. We offer MA degrees in Comparative Literature, French, German and Spanish, MAT degrees in Foreign Languages with emphasis in French, German, or Spanish and the PhD in Comparative Literature. A new PhD in Hispanic Studies is currently being developed, and we hope to be able to begin admitting students to that program by Fall 2010.
In the following pages, you will find information on admissions standards and application procedures, teaching assistant positions, requirements for degree completion, as well as an idea of the courses we have offered over the past few years.
We are making a constant effort to update and improve the website, so that it properly anticipates and clearly answers all of your questions. Please let me know if there is anything we can do to improve it.
If you are an applicant, please feel encouraged to make direct contact with the person or persons knowledgeable about your area. You will see the faculty and administrative staff responsible for the graduate programs listed below. Before asking specific questions, however, I recommend that you study the online information first.

Graduate Administrative Assistant

Keeps all graduate files, processing admissions applications, processing payroll for graduate teaching assistants, liaison with Graduate School, generating and tracking official paperwork. |
Graduate Advisors answer questions from applicants to the degree program they oversee. They assist applicants in the completion of their files, advocating for them in meetings of the admissions committee including the awarding of assistantship offers. Current students meet at least once a semester with their advisors to agree on courses to be taken, and to generate and fill out all required paperwork, including the Program of Study, to ensure timely progress toward completion of the degree and graduation. The graduate advisor is the first stop for students enrolled in the degree program.
