The Department of English Language and Literature
offers two graduate degrees in composition and rhetoric:
Specialization Area
A key feature that sets USC's Comp/Rhet doctoral program apart from programs
in other schools is the flexibility of the field of specialization. All
students "major" in Composition and Rhetoric (see Major
Reading List), but each has the opportunity to create a specialization,
a concentrated area of study chosen to complement the major. Ph.D.
Students work with their advisors in designing specializations in such
areas as political rhetoric, writing program administration, literature,
women's studies, research methodology, linguistics, teaching English as
a foreign language, or any imaginative direction they choose.
Through this specialization, Composition and Rhetoric at USC offers the
opportunity for interdisciplinary studies in a variety of departments
on campus such as Anthropology, Philosophy, Psychology, Computer Science,
Education, International Business, Journalism, Media Arts, and others.
