Graduate Study in English at the University of South Carolina

A tradition that reaches back to 1891… A vision of scholarship and teaching that breaks new ground… An opportunity to work closely with an internationally recognized and prize-winning teaching faculty…

At the University of South Carolina, the graduate program in English is dedicated to advanced study in a number of fields, including literature, rhetoric and composition, creative writing, and speech communication & rhetoric. The department awards the MA, MAT, MFA, and Ph.D. degrees.

The graduate program features a curriculum that provides opportunities for foundational training, specialized inquiry, and directed interdisciplinary scholarship. Home to diverse and creative students, USC English offers a collaborative learning environment, sponsors a variety of student organizations, and places a heavy emphasis on professional development and the successful placement of graduates.

As part of its commitment to support graduate education, the program’s students are eligible for numerous fellowships, including the Myerson Fellowship in American Literature, the Bruccoli Fellowship in English Literature, and the Dickey Fellowship in Creative Writing.

For applicants to the graduate program, please note that all application materials must be received by 15 January 2010. For more information about admissions, click here.
