Teaches Medieval European history, with a particular interest in the
history of religion. Professor Ames teaches surveys of
Medieval Europe and of Western Civilization, as well as more specialized
courses on the history of the Middle Ages. She has published several
articles, including "Does Inquisition Belong to Religious History?",
which appeared in The American Historical Review (February 2005).
Current Activities
My book, Righteous Persecution: Inquisition, Dominicans, and Christianity in the Middle Ages, will be published by the University of Pennsylvania Press in 2008. My next project will be a religious history of wine in the later Middle Ages.
