Tim Williams
About Me
Dr. Williams received his Ph.D. in United States History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2010. He specializes in nineteenth-century U.S. history, especially culture and intellectual life in the Old South. His current book project, tentatively titled Carolina Manhood: Education, Modernity, and the Antebellum South, focuses on young men’s gender identity formation as they read, wrote, and imagined their way to adulthood. His research interests also include the history of readers and reading, and has his eye on developing a new book project dealing with slave masculinity. He currently teaches Introduction to Southern Studies: 1580-1900.
