Dr. Shin teaches courses in demography. His research interests include political demography, internal migration, and adaptation process of Korean immigrants in the USA. Recent works include: "Social Change, Political Elections, and the Middle Class in Korea" East Asia (1999); "Effects of the Korean War on Social Structures of the Republic of Korea" International J. of Korean Studies (2001); "Political Demography of Korea" East Asia (2001); "Politics of Race in the U.S. Census 2000"  Survey Research  (2001) et al. (in Korean); "Globalization and Regionalization in Trade" Social Forces (forthcoming) with Sangmoon Kim.
