The Davis and Dernosheck Undergraduate Award for
Research/Study-related Travel


This award will be given to an outstanding undergraduate student who attends the FIPSE exchange program in Brazil, or attend a USC Summer Study Abroad Program in Latin America.
Checks in Dr. Darrell Dernosheck's honor can be written out to LASP Educational Foundation Fund.  Students applications for this award can be sent to the LASP Director.  Deadline: January 15, 2007.
The winner will be announced by the end of January.
The John J. Winberry Outstanding Thesis in Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino/a Studies
  • this award is given each year to a graduating senior for an outstanding thesis.  The 2005 winner of the Winberry Award was Jason Thompson, for his thesis, "Corn and Resistance:  Indigenous Identity and Trade in Mexico."
College of Arts and Sciences Rising Senior Award in the Latin American Studies Program
  • The CAS Rising Senior Award in LASP is given for academic achievement in the major and at USC.  The 2005 winner of the award was Craig L. Portney.  The 2006 winner of the award was Kimberly Bickford-Heape.
LASP Research and Travel Awards to Faculty and Students
  • Each year, monetary LASP Research and Travel Awards are granted to successful proposals from LASP faculty and undergraduate and graduate students.  In 2005, grants were awarded to LASP faculty members, Laura Cahue, Marcia De Castro, and Victor Manuel Durán, and student awards were given to Kristen Hudgins and Leah Lindsey.
  • 2005-2006 recipients of LASP faculty research-related travel awards were Alejandro Bernal, Jorge Camacho, Alvaro Cuervo-Cazurra, and Ramona Lagos. Recipients of the LASP Scardaville Graduate Award for Research-related Travel were Luis Dau, Raul Sanchez Urribarri, and Amanda Elias Vargas. The recipient of the LASP Davis Undergraduate Award for Research-related Travel was Mica Jenkins.
