The South Carolina Broadcasters Association established the Broadcasting Communications Archives in 1976 as a repository of records, documents and tapes to chronicle the history and development of the industry in this state. The archives have been established as a unit of the University of South Carolina's Museums and Archives program located in the McKissick building on the Horseshoe of the Columbia campus.

The Broadcasting Archives serves the following purposes:
- Serve as a repository of the state's broadcasting industry to preserve the record of its people and its development and to conduct an active collection program.
- Provide visibility for the Assocation and promote public awareness of the contributions of broadcasting and broadcasters in South Carolina.
- Collect and preserve items of historical and continuing interest such as program recordings, oral histories, information about notable individuals
in the industry in South Carolina.
