This paper provides a very critical analysis of the ethical theory of
Giorgio Agamben as it emerges in his book Remnants of Auschwitz: The
Witness and the Archive. I argue that while there is an ethic of
witnessing, witnessing is the foundation of the ethical; and that Agamben's
way of witnessing the muselman is in an important sense pornographic.
