Education
Dr. Flory received her B.A. in Psychology from Duke University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Kentucky. She completed a clinical internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh, PA.
Research Interests
Dr. Flory’s primary research focuses on the development of substance use in youths with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). She is currently examining why adolescents with ADHD are at greater risk for cigarette smoking than their non-ADHD peers. In particular, she is interested in the interplay between cognitive (e.g., impulsivity, poor decision-making skills) and social (e.g., peer and family relationships) factors and their influence on the smoking attitudes and behavior of adolescents with ADHD. She is also working on developing and testing a smoking prevention program designed for middle school-aged adolescents with ADHD.
