Dr. Huebner is Professor and Director of the School Psychology program in the
Department of Psychology at the University of South Carolina (USC). He received his Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1983.
Prior to coming to the USC in 1990, he worked as a school psychologist in Iowa and Indiana as well as a staff therapist
in a community mental health center. Additionally, he served as an assistant and associate professor and Director of the
Psychoeducational Clinic at Western Illinois University. He has served as Project Director and Co-Principal Investigator
on federally funded pupil personnel training grants and Project Evaluator on federally funded mental health programs.
His current scholarly interests include:
- child and adolescent personality assessment
- children's positive psychological well-being (e.g., life satisfaction, self-concept)
- school psychologists' stress and well-being
- school psychology and health promotion
His teaching assignments typically include:
- research in the schools seminar
- personality assessment
- school psychology seminar and practica
- survey of personality
- exceptional children
Dr. Huebner is a Fellow in Division 16 of the American Psychological Association and
the International Society for Quality of Life Studies and is an elected member of the Society for the Study of School Psychology. He is also the 1996 recipient of the award for
Outstanding Contributions to School Psychology from the South Carolina Association of School Psychologists
and the 1999 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Indiana University College of Education.
Dr. Huebner has served on the editorial boards of school psychology journals (e.g., Journal of School Psychology, School Psychology Review),
and positive psychology/quality of life journals (e.g., Journal of Happiness Studies, Applied Quality of Life Research) as well as the NASP Communique.
He has published about 170 scholarly works in his career to date. His publications have appeared in journals in psychology, school psychology,
general education, special education, public health, medicine, measurement, and interdisciplinary fields (quality of life studies). He has been
identified as among the "Top 5" most productive scholars in the school psychology community for more than two decades (see Little, 1997; Wanger, Lail, & Viglietta, 2006).
Dr. Huebner is a co-editor of the forthcoming book, Handbook of Positive Psychology in the Schools (with Rich Gilman and Mike Furlong).
He is also featured in the APA (Division 16) 2008 Conversation Series DVD entitled "Positive Psychology in the Schools" (also with Rich Gilman and Mike Furlong).
