Dr. Herman C. Salzberg

Dr. Salzberg, a Professor and ABPP in Clinical Psychology, earned his Ph.D. from the University
of Tennessee in 1960. He teaches and does research in the areas of:
- psychotherapy
- alcoholism
- hypnosis
- psychopathology
- gerontology
Dr. Salzberg has done extensive research in group and individual psychotherapy. He also has done considerable
research in hypnosis. With his students, he has written in the field of alcoholism. Currently he is supervising
doctoral students who are doing research in many areas of clinical psychology. Dr. Salzberg considers himself
a generalist, with interests in many different areas of research.
His most recent area of inquiry is "What makes a good therapist?" Dr. Salzberg plans to explore the nature
of the therapeutic relationship, what good therapist characteristics clinical students bring to their training,
and what teaching clinicians can do to teach students to be good therapists. In the last few years, Dr. Salzberg
also has been very interested in training his students in gerontology.
