Admissions: Frequently Asked Questions
What materials are required as part of my application?
- Graduate School Application
(http://www.gradschool.sc.edu/futurestudents/OnlineApplication.html)
- Supplemental Application for Clinical-Community Psychology (completed on-line)
- Payment of required application fee to the graduate school
- Official copy of GRE scores: Verbal, Quantitative, and Psychology Exams scores
- Official transcript from undergraduate institution(s)
- Three letters of recommendation
Do I need to take the subject matter GRE exam in Psychology?
Is there a certain undergraduate g.p.a. or score on the GRE exams that is used to "screen out" applications from consideration?
We do not have any strict cut-off scores for g.p.a. or the GRE in order to fully consider an
applicant's file. The graduate school requires a Verbal plus Quantitative GRE score of 1,000 or higher
for admission to doctoral programs at U.S.C. The average scores of our incoming classes, however, are
provided as a general guidepost for typical g.p.a. and GRE scores for those admitted to the program
(see program criteria).
What if some of my application materials arrive after the application deadline?
All materials must be received by the graduate school by the December 1 deadline to receive
full consideration. We attempt to review materials that arrive late, but cannot guarantee a full
review of the file under these circumstances.
Do I have to have an undergraduate major in Psychology to be accepted into the program?
No. We have accepted applicants who were not Psychology majors; however, in reviewing files
we consider the applicant’s demonstrated readiness and aptitude for pursuing graduate school in
Psychology based on the GRE, undergraduate coursework, letters of reference, and other materials
in the file.
What is the School's GRE code?
