The Allendale Paleoindian Expedition
The Allendale Paleoindian Expedition is directed by Albert C.Goodyear, Ph.D (Director, Southeastern Paleoamerican Survey, goodyear@sc.edu). Al Goodyear joined the Institute in 1974. He received his doctorate from Arizona State University in 1976. He is a Research Professor in the Research Division. His research interests include prehistoric hunter-gatherers, stone tool technology, geoarchaeology, and Paleoamerican studies. He is the Director and founder of the Southeastern Paleoamerican Survey (SEPAS), a program designed to search for the earliest humans in the southeastern U.S. He has published extensively on prehistoric lithic technology, Paleoindians, the Pleistocene-Holocene transition, and geoarchaeological applications.
Since 1998, Goodyear has been leading excavations at the Topper site, a Clovis and preClovis site in Allendale County, SC on the Savannah River. This research has been conducted through the Allendale Paleoindian Expedition, an excavation program utilizing volunteers from the public.
