Head, MFA Design

Our business is to foster the next generation of new voices for the theatre.

In a New Century

Our program prepares emerging artists for innovative careers. Our approach embraces the changing aesthetic and technology of the new century in combination with mastering the traditional crafts of theatrical design.

While each student specializes in scenic, costume, or lighting design our approach recognizes that each is part of an integrated whole. Students study and often design in secondary design areas.

Academic course work is structured to make you a better communicator and analytical thinker.

One Program for Many Careers

This interdisciplinary approach to theatre prepares students for a vast array of design employment opportunities. Today's theatre trained artists are uniquely prepared for careers in traditional theatre as well as dance, opera, television, film, themed entertainment, and the exploding field of digital media.

Exploring word, image and action in relation with space, costumes and lighting prepares one for rewarding careers in theatre, television, film, video, dance, themed entertainment and other performance.

Span the Gap

Our program builds bridges to a professional career. Our design faculty all work in theatre, film, and dance here and abroad. We bring nationally and inter-nationally known guest artists to campus to design and teach. The final link to your professional life comes through a paid internship at a theatre or production company of national or international stature.

Our business is to foster the next generation of new voices for the theatre.
