A three-year program (63 hours)


FIVE SEMESTER RESIDENCY with ONE SEMESTER INTERNSHIP:


1. REQUIRED CORE OF GENERAL STUDIES IN THEATRE 49 credits total

In the event that MFA candidates are directed into a one-year internship, requirements are as follows:

THSP 777 Advanced Movement 12 credits
THSP 741 Advanced Voice 15 credits

2. REQUIRED CRITICAL STUDIES 9 credits total

THSP 758 Directing I 3 credits
THSP 761 Theatre History 3 credits

3. THESIS PREPARATION 3 credits

In addition to the 63 required hours for the MFA in Acting, the candidate is strongly encouraged to take appropriate electives in the field of study. Appropriate electives might include such courses as THSP 587 Film and Television Acting and additional Voice and Movement study.

Other requirements for the MFA degree:
* A thesis must be accepted by the MFA Advisory Committee and by the Graduate School.
* A comprehensive examination must be passed.
* All course work must be at the 500 level or above; and one-half of the course work, exclusive of thesis preparation, must be at the 700 level or above.
* A professional internship must be completed successfully.
