Partnership Council Organizational Guidelines
The Women's and Gender Studies Partnership Council advises Women's and Gender Studies and its Women's Well-Being Initiative on community issues and opportunities related to women's well-being. It also works to strengthen the Women's and Gender Studies Endowment and to raise money to support special projects directed toward improving women's well-being in South Carolina.

Membership

The full membership shall consist of sixteen members appointed to serve three-year terms. The Council membership shall serve voluntarily without remuneration. The Council shall meet three times a year as a full contingency. Each Council member shall be responsible for recommending opportunities, issues, and prospective donors to the full Council who will then develop an Opportunities and Issues report for the Director of Women's and Gender Studies and a fund raising plan for the Council. The Initiative Director shall serve on the Council as a link between the Council and Women's and Gender Studies. Council members will demonstrate willingness to support the Initiative both financially and through service.

Perpetuation

The founding Chair shall be appointed by the Director of Women's and Gender Studies. The founding Chair will recruit fifteen additional individuals for charter membership on the Council. In subsequent years, the Council shall recommend new members to the Chair as needed. Members will be appointed or reappointed to the Council at the pleasure of the Council Chair. The first slate of members shall be appointed in a manner so that one-third of the membership rotates off the Council each year.

Officers

The founding Chair shall serve for one year. Thereafter, the Council shall elect a Vice Chair and Recorder to serve one year terms and the Vice Chair will serve as Chair the subsequent year.

Committees

The Partnership Council has four committees: Issues & Opportunities, Special Events & Projects, Public Relations, and Development. Issues & Opportunities -- This committee develops in conjunction with the full Council a yearly report of opportunities and issues of interest to the Initiative and Women's and Gender Studies. Mary Baskin Waters, Chair.

Special Events & Projects

This committee will plan at least one yearly event. The event will recognize the contributions of Friends of the Initiative and Women's Studies. Special projects related to the Council's fundraising plan also may be undertaken. Elizabeth Todd Heckel, Chair.

Development

This committee gathers names and information regarding prospective Friends. They work with USC Development Office and visit prospective donors to present the goals, accomplishments and needs of the Initiative and Women's and Gender Studies. In addition, they thank contributors and promote an ongoing relationship between the contributor and Council members. Kay McFarland, Chair.

Public Relations

The public relations committee informs the community regarding the accomplishments of the Initiative and Women's and Gender Studies. The committee also publicizes events and projects related to women's well-being. Vacant, Chair.
