African American Program Requirements
A grade of C or above is required for the course to count toward the BA degree in African American Studies Core Courses (12 hours)
Additional Courses (18 hours)
AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES MINOR (18 hours) A minor in the African American Studies Program strengthens an undergraduate degree in the College of Arts and Sciences by providing students with the interdisciplinary tools and resources to study the experiences of people of African descent and to evaluate black historical, cultural, social, economic and political developments in South Carolina, the South, the United States, and beyond. In addition to 2 core courses, students will have the opportunity to select related courses in other disciplines (as approved by the program director and faculty advisors).

Note: No more than one Independent Study course (3 hours) may be applied to the minor. Independent Study requires the approval of the Director of African American Studies.
