During the first two years, African-American Studies majors typically concentrate on fulfilling general education requirements and taking AFRO 201-202: Introduction to African-American Studies, the prerequisite courses for the African-American Studies major.
Upon acceptance into the major, and in consultation with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, each student will develop an individual course of study which includes: four courses in one discipline (e.g., History or English - 12 hours); courses in a related discipline (9-12 hours); Individual Study Project supervised by a member of the African-American Studies Program faculty committee; or additional course work may be substituted with the approval of the Director of Undergraduate Studies (6-9 hours); AFRO 498-499, Senior Seminar (6 hours).
