The purpose of this organization is to promote and enhance identity, a sense of community, professional welfare and development among faculty, staff and students.

Benjamin Banneker

(Nov. 9, 1731-Oct. 9, 1806)
Originally Banna Ka, or Bannakay, he was one of the first African Americans to gain distinction as a scientist. He was a Free Black, born into a family who had purchased their freedom. He studied on his own to become an accomplished mathematician, astronomer and clockmaker. He published several almanacs of his astronomical observations and wrote and collected mathematical puzzles written in verse.
