Marion Anderson

(Feb. 27, 1897 - Apr. 8, 1993)
Professional classical singer; debuted with the New York Philharmonic in 1925 and performed at Carnegie Hall in 1928. Acclaimed by critics she toured Europe in the 1930's. She is best remembered for her performance on Easter Sunday, 1939 on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.
