Course Content:
This is an undergraduate-level introduction to the concept of culture and how it has been used by anthropologists to understand the ways people in the U.S. and in many other areas of the world think about identity, community, and difference; arrange life differently in households and in community use of space and resources; and conceptualize the world through language, religion, humor, and powerful imagery.
Course Presentation:
There will be a mixed format of lectures and small-group discussion. Film, as a window to cross-cultural experiences, will be as important to students’ learning as lectures and discussion.
Method of Evaluation:
Students will have one-page papers due regularly in section. There will also be a midterm and a final exam, which will include essay questions.
Audience:
This course is open to all undergraduates.
