Anthropology 101 / Primates, People, and Prehistory

Course Readings:
Human Antiquity: An Introduction to Physical Anthropology and Archaeology. 5th edition (Boston, McGraw Hill, 2007), by Kenneth L. Feder and Michael Allen Park. Readings that are assigned for a certain day should be done before class. Textbook readings & handouts should be brought to class because they will be used in the class discussions that accompany lectures.

Course Content:
To survey the techniques, methods, data and theories that comprise modern archaeology & physical anthropology. To learn how archaeology & physical anthropology are related to the larger field of anthropology, & to other fields of social, biological, and natural science. This class is designed to explore the relationship between human biology & culture, with special emphasis on evolution.

Course Presentation:
This course is largely an introductory lecture. Films, demonstrations and discussion compose the remainder of course content.

Method of Evaluation:
Students will be evaluated based on their performance on exams, class discussions, and exercises.

Audience:
Students who take this course tend to come from a variety of majors and backgrounds.
