Course Content:
This course will focus on popular culture in Japan, the PRC, and Taiwan. This will include mass media such as film, music, television programming, Japanese manga (comic books), and other related topics. The course will also include theoretical examinations of cultural hybridity, colonial pasts, alternate modernities, local vs. transnational space, and the adoption and adaptation of foreign influences.
