Course Description:
An overview of biological anthropology including rudimentary genetics, evolution theory, primatology and primate evolution, and paleoanthropology. There will be special emphasis on evolution theory and the fossil record. Additionally, the student will be introduced to the topic of brain evolution (paleoneurology) and the onset of civilization and some of its implications. Many of these topics contain philosophical ramifications which will be discussed and active participation of the student is expected. Even though this is an introductory course, it is expected that the student will learn to analyze the issues critically.
