My current research, as part of a National Science Foundation (NSF) Nanotechnology Interdisciplinary Research Team (NIRT), focuses on the societal implications of nanoscience/technology. This complex area of investigation opens a vast new world that exists at 10–9/1 billionth of a meter, a scale fundamental to the development of life, and promises significant effect on our culture. Molecules can be visualized and manipulated atom-by-atom and images are instrumental in how the technology develops. The technology is redefining how we see and what it means to see.
