Artist Statement:
My work addresses personal history and experience in the context of western mythology, the history of painting and contemporary culture. Within this I have a fascination with ritual and the function of art in ritual.
Despite the autobiographical focus, the primary goal in my work is to connect my own experience to shared, universal themes. I see this dialog as a sort of ritual, and hope to generate, in the viewer, a sense of empathy with the subjects in my work.
The vehicle for this pursuit is large-scale mimetic painting. Through the scale and tangibility of the image I hope to amplify both the experience of empathy and sense of participation of the viewer in the pictures. (BFA)llowing my undergraduate study,Arezzo has greatly influenced my work, and helped to promote my work in Europe.
ll College of art and Design as well aspainting larger ersal themes., between personal and shared experience, itself, : one that transcends time, placeand cultural boundaries. My vehicle inthe viewers toward my subjects In this sense I also see the work as a sort of theatre in which the viewer is a participant, continually reconfiguring the event with their own experience.
