5-7pm: Opening reception for "To Reproduce or not to Reproduce ", work by Kathy King.
Kathy King, an Assistant Professor in Ceramics, Georgia State University, creates powerful works that force the viewer to reflect on culture, ritual, and their own mortality. Sometimes this is accomplished with humorous metaphors, and other times with the raw, gutsy directness of her drawn or carved images on clay forms. She received her MFA from University of Florida and has exhibited nationally and internationally. A select listing of these prominent venues include SPACE Lab, Cleveland, OH; Erie Art Museum in Erie, PA; World Ceramics Exposition, Seoul, Korea; Odyssey Gallery, Ashville, NC; and Blue Spiral Gallery, Ashville, NC.
Her previous teaching credential include Cleveland Institute of Art, Connecticut College School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Harvard Ceramics Studio, where she was also the Artist-in-Residence. USC McMaster Gallery will host a mixed media installation of mosaic, wood and fibre by King from March 2-30, 2006.
