Jill Frank is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of South
Carolina, Columbia. She researches and teaches ancient and modern legal and political theory, specializing in the texts and contexts of the classical world with a view to enriching contemporary democratic theory and practice. With a book titled, A Democracy of
Distinction: Aristotle and the Work of Politics (Chicago, 2005), and more recent pieces on Aristotle's Constitution of the
Athenians, Sophocles' Antigone, and Plato's Republic, she is currently writing a book on the topic of authority, that focuses on
classical poetry, rhetoric, history, and philosophy, with a special emphasis on the dialogs of Plato.
