Classics in Contemporary Perspectives

Postdoctoral Fellowship

AY 2012-2013

The Classics in Contemporary Perspectives Initiative at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship from scholars who work on the Ancient world from an interdisciplinary and contemporary perspective. We especially welcome applications from scholars whose research interests intersect with projects and topics in ongoing CCP research and teaching. Examples include but are not limited to: democratic theory and practice; the reception of classical texts; democracy-building and citizenship in transitional societies; rhetorical invention and discourses of ethical life; Ancient philosophy and philosophy of science; eros, authority, and irony.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as Politics, Comparative Literature, Rhetoric, Classics, History, Philosophy, or another related discipline. Applicants should have demonstrated experience in research and teaching, a record of communicating research results via publications and/or professional presentations, and be willing and able to participate in collaborative, interdisciplinary research and teaching

This nine month, full time, position will be available starting August 16, 2012 and ending May 15, 2013. Salary is $35,000-$45,000 (plus health benefits) depending on experience.
