About Us

The Confucius Institute was established in November 2008, a joint program between the Beijing Language and Culture University and the University of South Carolina. It is a non-profit institute sponsored by the Confucius Institute Headquarters in China to promote Chinese Language education, as well as educational, cultural and business exchanges between the state of South Carolina and China. It will serve the needs of the university community and the general South Carolina society. Established for only two months, the Confucius Instute at USC has already sponsored many China-related cultural activities in the Columbia area, such as "Eye to the East: The Turner Collection of Chinese Art" at Columbia Museum of Art. With its important role China can play in world economy, South Carolinians shall also look to the East for business oportunities.

The University of South Carolina was chosen for its excellence in international business and international studies, its distinction as a Carnegie Foundation research university, it's Innovista research campus and for its capital city location in a state that leads the Southeast as an economic trade partner with China.
