Created to support and promote the vast wealth of talent and creativity of the dance arts in SC, the SC Festival of Dance features two incredible nights of dance performance at the world-class Koger Center for the Arts. On October 7th, we showcase the best of the state’s professional troupes, including Columbia City Ballet, Dance FX, Carolina Ballet Theatre, Columbia Classical Ballet Company, and UNBOUND. Then, on October 8th, pre-professional companies whose work has been adjudicated by a panel of nationally recognized dance professionals will take the Koger stage. Throughout the two nights of performances, you’ll get the chance to experience the rich diversity of South Carolina’s dance world!
In addition to top-notch performances on stage, the SC Festival of Dance provides wonderful off-stage experiences, with master classes and workshops representing a wide variety of dance styles and skill levels, led by SC’s top dance professionals. A workshop specifically for dance educators, led by internationally-recognized dance education specialists will also be offered. |

The USC Dance Company takes the Koger stage for an evening celebrating masters of both classical and contemporary dance, including legendary choreographer Twyla Tharp’s early masterpiece Eight Jelly Rolls. Acknowledged as Tharp’s first piece to be directly inspired by music, Eight Jelly Rolls takes its inspiration from the ragtime stylings of composer Jelly Roll Morton, and presents Tharp’s innovative approach to jazz dance while giving a nod to its spirited past. As reviewed by the Boston Herald, “ it digs into the kinetic fiber of jazz in a way that no choreography has done before.”
Also scheduled are excerpts from Petipa’s grand ballet, Paquita, and a pas de trois from famed guest choreographer Luc de Lairesse. |

On the same dates as the student showcase, Wideman/Davis Dance, our resident professional dance company, will bring their original work to the Drayton Hall stage.
Led by faculty members Thaddeus Davis and Tanya Wideman-Davis, the company melds innovative modern choreography with socially-relevant themes to create art that moves, educates and inspires. |

Take a seat on the leading edge of dance as the USC Dance Company premieres three brand-new contemporary pieces, including work created specifically for our dancers by choreographer Helen Pickett (former principal dancer with William Forsythe’s Ballet Frankfurt). Faculty members Thaddeus Davis and Tanya Wideman-Davis will also contribute original works. |

For the seventh consecutive year, we host principal dancers from the New York City Ballet for an evening of dance mastery that will leave you breathless! Under the direction of faculty member Stacey Calvert, a former soloist with the NYCB, our dancers will share the stage with top stars of the professional ballet realm and the USC Symphony to present a world-class display of dance excellence!
After the performance, a separate ticket will gain you admission to a gala fundraiser, featuring fine dining, cocktails and, of course, dancing!
