The University of SC Dance Conservatory, the pre-professional dance training program operated by the University of SC Dance Program, has announced the appointment of Stacey Calvert as the Conservatory’s new School Director of Curriculum. Calvert is a former soloist with the New York City Ballet and currently a Distinguished Artist in Residence at the University of SC Dance Program.

Under Calvert’s direction in the newly created position, Conservatory faculty will begin training dancers under a unified syllabus based on the world-renowned conservatory structure of Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. As part of this new structure, the Conservatory will also be implementing a graded level system.

Several new instructors have been added to the Conservatory faculty, as well, including Kyra Strasberg, (former principal dancer with Boston Ballet), Shannon Volk (former dancer with American Ballet Theatre), Kyomi Mercadante (former dancer with Richmond Ballet & Ballet Austin) and Susan Dabney Hancock (former dancer with Los Angeles Classical Ballet & USC Dance Company). Mindy Chester, former dancer with Greenville’s Carolina Ballet, will be returning to the faculty as well. Kerri Lambert has been appointed the new administrative director and will also join the team of instructors. Lambert recently received her MFA in Dance from the University of Oklahoma.

“With the implementation of this new syllabus the efforts within each level and the school as a whole will be coordinated,” says Administrative Director Kerri Lambert. “Every teacher and every class will be focused to train dancers and artists from the beginning towards a unified goal.”

The Conservatory begins its training for 2011-12 on September 12. Students aged three and up, including adults, are welcome to join. Enrollment is ongoing and can be arranged by contacting Kerri Lambert at 803-777-7264, or via email at klambert@mailbox.sc.edu.
