Why a BA?
First and foremost: we’ll guide you to become a better dancer.
And a degree, with its academic emphasis, will give you additional
career options—whether or not you pursue performing
career.
Nowhere else in the state can students major in a dance program
with a focus in classical ballet. |
Many dance-related careers
require a college education —
or really benefit from a college
education—including dance instructor, choreographer, professional
performer, dance studio management, college or school teaching, management
of an arts organization, work with fitness centers and
athletic teams...and many others
Just as dance classes will discipline your body, classes in the
College of Arts and Sciences will discipline your mind. Courses
in English, humanities, and social sciences will introduce you
to a world of ideas.
You will develop abilities in critical and creative thinking,
oral and written communication, research, abstract reasoning
and interpretative skills, in addition to rigorous practical
and theoretical training
in dance.
Your mind and body will be challenged to work together to
find new ways to express an array of feelings and ideas
through movement. |
The dance program offers a Bachelor of Arts with a focus in classical
ballet. There are two tracks: Dance Performance / Choreography
and Dance Education.
The degree program provides professional training in performance
and pedagogy, and prepares students for graduate work and advanced
studies in dance.
The curriculum includes daily classical ballet classes at beginning,
intermediate, and advanced levels, as well as intensive Pointe
work and classical repertory studies.
Chances to Shine!
The USC Dance Company performs at least six concerts a year
at Drayton Hall and the Koger Center for the Arts.
Since 1976, the USC Dance Company has grown to become a renowned
performance dance ensemble, presenting ballet, modern and jazz
works as well as innovative dance concerts and contemporary works.
The USC Dance Company has performed over
100 classical and contemporary ballets. |
For example, recently the USC Dance Company presented the neo-classical
ballet “Apollo,” the signature work of George Balanchine,
the famous choreographer of the New York
City Ballet.
