Assistant Professor of Dance Education
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach all undergraduate K-12 dance pedagogy
courses. Supervise, advise and mentor dance education students
in K-12 certification program, including field experiences
and internships.
Teach related dance courses depending on expertise/interest.
Develop and maintain close contact with area schools and the
USC College
of Education. Conduct a program of research appropriate to the
discipline. Applicants must provide evidence of their professional
commitment
through a developing record of scholarly research and publication.
Opportunities to participate in departmental production program.
QUALIFICATIONS: Terminal degree required in dance education or
related field. Ph.D. or Ed.D. preferred. ABD considered. Demonstrated
effectiveness
teaching at the university level. Record of scholarly/creative
activity. Preferred: Prefer K-12 public school experience teaching
dance to
include working with diverse student populations. Expertise/interest
teaching technique classes (ballet, contemporary, jazz, African,
creative movement/improvisation, choreography), or theory classes
(kinesiology, dance history, world dance forms, and criticism
and analysis).
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Nine-month, full-time, tenure-track
position.

The Dance Program within the Department of
Theatre and Dance employs five full-time
faculty and
seven adjunct faculty to work with 60+
dance majors
. The production
season includes six dance productions per year which
include one student dance showcase. The University
Dance Program is known for
its ballet
training, which
includes the classical repertory as well as contemporary
ballet. The BA students in Performance/Choreography
can specialize
in classical or contemporary
dance
and the BA in Dance Education specializes in both classical
and contemporary. The new, state of the art
dance facility
will be complete in January
of 2009.
