Alumni, faculty, staff and supporters of the College of Arts and Sciences marched to the Statehouse Wednesday, March 30, for the annual Carolina Day at the Statehouse. There they met with legislators and advocated for support of public higher education.
Carolina Day at the Statehouse, which began in 2004, is sponsored by the Carolina Alumni Association's Carolina Action Network (CAN) and is open to anyone with an interest in the university. CAN advocates are volunteers who work together to increase awareness of legislative matters that affect the state's colleges and universities and help members of the University of South Carolina family share their concern for the university and the positive message of what the university can do for the state.
The day was also an opportunity for members of the College of Arts and Sciences leadership, including Dean Mary Anne Fitzpatrick and Ann Cameron, Director of External Relations for the College, to convey the importance of higher education and the importance of the College to the state.
