2006 Recognition of Excellence Dinner
On March 16, 2006 the USC College of Arts and Sciences hosted its annual Recognition of Excellence dinner honoring those who have made significant contributions to the University and their communities. Recipients were:

Distinguished Service Award: Dr. Henrie M. Treadwell, Biology '65
Outstanding Graduate Alumnus Award: Dr. L. Fred Carter, Political Science '79
Distinguished Young Alumnus Award: Mr. Jason Parsch, Criminal Justice '00
Distinguished Alumnus Achievement Award: Mr. John Lawson, International Studies '84
Clariant Corporation is a global leader in specialty chemicals headquartered in Muttenz, Switzerland and represented on five continents. Clariant has been involved in the College of Arts and Sciences Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry with a representative serving on the Industrial Advisory Board. Clariant has also allowed University archaeologists to conduct archaeological investigations on its Martin plant property since 1996. The company assists in prepping the dig sites and allows workers to stay on the property for weeks at a time.
Dr. Henrie M. Treadwell is a senior social scientist and associate director of development at the National Center for Primary Care at Morehouse School of Medicine. She has received numerous awards, served as a consultant, published articles and served on various boards throughout her career. Dr. Treadwell was the first African American to enroll at USC after the landmark desegregation lawsuit.
Dr. L. Fred Carter has served as the president of Francis Marion University since 1999. Previously, Dr. Carter held several state, political, and educational offices in South Carolina. He has authored five books and numerous articles and has received various awards, including the Order of the Palmetto. In addition, he is a retired colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.
Jason Parsch is a special agent with the U.S. Secret Service, assigned to the New York field office. On September 11, 2001 Mr. Parsch was in the World Trade Center when the attacks occurred. Though injured, he remained at ground zero to help save lives and to manage other law enforcement personnel both before and after the towers fell. Jason was honored by the president of the United States for his actions.
John Lawson is the president and CEO of the Association of Public Television Stations in Washington, D.C. Under his leadership, APTS has persuaded Congress to increase federal funding for public television including digital conversion. Mr. Lawson negotiated the most extensive agreement in the history of the industry for the carriage of multiple digital programming streams on American cable systems. In addition to receiving many awards and serving on numerous boards, he is on the Partnership Board of the USC Department of Political Science.
