Professor Castner’s research interests are
the influence of philosophy upon Latin literature of the
first century B.C., especially Lucretius and Epicureanism;
and Renaissance Latin, particularly humanist descriptions
of Italy. She has published a Prosopography of Roman Epicureans
(Frankfurt: Peter Lang, 1988). Prof. Castner's book, Biondo
Flavio's Italia illustrata: Text, Translation, and Commentary.

She has also published articles in such journals as Greek,
Roman, and Byzantine Studies, Phoenix, and Medievalia et
Humanistica. In the area of teaching, she offers courses
in all levels of Latin and has developed new courses in
English translation crosslisted with the curricula in Women’
Studies and Medical Humanities.
