Financial Assistance for Graduate Students
Financial assistance is available to eligible graduate students in the form of assistantships. Most graduate assistants are classified as half-time assistants and pay $700 in fees per semester, plus a technology fee of $4 per credit hour. Assistantships, renewable for a second year, carry a stipend of $7,000. Summer assistantships are also available. Applications should reach the Department by May 1, although some appointments may still be possible after that date. Financial Assistance for Undergraduate Students
The awards for undergraduates include:
The Gerda Jordan Scholarship for outstanding German majors.
The Maria Reyes Scholarship for outstanding German majors or minors.
The Hoechst Scholarship for outstanding German majors or minors.
To apply you are required to submit a sample essay in German that you wrote for a German course at the University of South Carolina. (Submissions will generally be solicited at the start of Spring semester.)
Students who receive the stipends must apply the funds to expenses associated with studying German language and literature at USC during the academic year.
