Undergraduate Programs
The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures offers undergraduate
majors in classics, Comparative Literature, French, German, Italian,
Russian, and Spanish, all leading to the bachelor of arts degree.
If you are interested in teaching, an Undergraduate Foreign Language Teacher Certification Program is being offered as of Fall 2007. The department also offers minors in ancient Greek, classical studies,
French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish.
All language majors and minors are strongly encouraged to study
abroad for a month, a semester or a year, in one of the many programs
under direct departmental supervision or vetted by the Office of
International Programs for Students. Scholarships and financial
aid are available for many of these.
At home in Columbia, there is an active student language life
including various language clubs, local foreign language films and
festivals, and annual events such as the French
Play, German and (soon) Spanish plays.
