Wittenberg Exchange

In May and June of each year a four week study
program in Germany is offered for three semester credit hours at
the 300 level (German 333), and receive 3 additional transfer credits
from the Institut für die Deutsche Sprache und Kultur. Students
who have completed German 122, higher level German courses, or their
equivalent, are eligible to participate. The content of the course
focuses on language practice and contemporary German culture.
Martin-Lutherstadt-Wittenberg is the site for
the study. It is located about 80 kilometers southwest of Berlin
in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Lodging is with German families from
the Wittenberg area, selected by the Institut für die Deutsche
Sprache und Kultur, our partner organization. Weekend excursions
and day trips are part of the organized program.
The group travels to Germany in May. The return
date after the study program ends in June is left open for independent
travel and return to the U.S.
The approximate fixed cost, which varies annually
according to the exchange rate between the dollar and the Euro,
is $3300. This includes round-trip airfare estimated at $850 to
Berlin, USC tuition, lodging (with breakfast) for one month, other
meals and incidental expenses, and all travel within Germany as
included in the course program.
Every study abroad participant must complete certain
forms to track participation, assist in the event of an emergency,
and mitigate the risk and liability taken on by USC as an institution.
Students participaiting in the 2006 trip they must complete these
forms and submit them to the study abroad office by March
1, 2006. These forms can be accessed via our website at:
