We have reserved a block of rooms at the Hilton for conference participants. Located in the Vista neighborhood, the hotel boasts excellent facilities and is close to the University of South Carolina campus, the state capitol, and a variety of shops, restaurants, and nightlife.

Until September 23, 2008, the Hilton is offering a conference rate of $119.00 for either a single or double room.  Please contact the Hilton directly or book through the Hilton Website to book your room. When calling, please indicate to the agent that you reserving a room in the Engaging Rhetorical Theory block of rooms. When booking through the website, the reservation code is: theory.

Please be sure to make your reservation no later than September 23, 2008.

 

Travel to Columbia

For purposes of organizing travel, the conference will begin in the morning on Friday, 24 October and conclude on Saturday evening, 25 October. 

Traveling to Columbia is not difficult. The city is served by a very convenient if not charming airport, located about 10 minutes from the conference hotel and downtown Columbia. The airport is served by a number of airlines, including, United, Delta, American, Northwest, and Continental.

 

Airport – Hotel Transport

The hotel is a short cab ride from the airport and the hotel is likely to have a shuttle in service in the autumn. We are also planning on assisting with transportation from and to the airport. To facilitate transportation, please complete and return the form below. Additional details about transportation will follow in the early autumn.

 

Conference Website

The conference schedule, participant list and other information will be posted and updated on the conference website. We will send word when the site is up and running.

 

Audio-Visual Needs

A/V requests must be received by September 23. The Hilton has LCD projectors with remotes, flip-charts, extension cords, dry erase boards, and microphones.  If you need something in particular that is not on this list, please make the request to Mindy and she will see if arrangements can be made. 

 

Computing and Research Facilities

The Hilton features a business center and wireless internet access. The University of South Carolina library will be open to conference participants.

 

Additional Information

Late October is a wonderful time to be in Columbia. The weather is typically quite moderate (60s-70s) and sunny. Muckelbauer can detail the golfing options for those who are interested and Mindy can provide information about local gyms and running routes.
