About Our Instructors

English 101 and 102 are designed to prepare students for the academic writing and research tasks they’ll face throughout college. This is a challenging goal, and in order to meet it, the First-Year English Program has made excellent teaching its top priority.

All of our classes are taught by highly qualified faculty and graduate teaching assistants who have received special training in methods of teaching college-level writing. Because we limit our class sizes to fewer than 25 students, our instructors are able to give students and their writing plenty of individual attention. All instructors hold individual conferences with each student at least once during the semester, and they hold weekly office hours so that students can drop by to discuss concerns and questions.

Perhaps because our instructors strive to be available to students, they receive unusually strong teaching evaluations and many have won departmental and campus-wide teaching awards.

If you would like more information on what instructors do in the classroom, please look at the Sample Syllabi.

Instructors, see the First-Year English Instructor's Site on Blackboard.
