Graduate Studies in English

South Carolina's first, largest, and still most highly rated graduate program in English offers six master's degrees and two doctoral degrees. The first graduate degree granted in the state was a Ph.D. in English in 1891. Today USC's graduate program in English boasts an extraordinarily talented faculty , diverse and intellectually curious students, and professionally and socially active student organizations.

Students in all fields are also eligible for fellowships offered by the department. We are particularly proud of our named fellowships:

The Myerson Fellowship in American Literature

The Bruccoli Fellowship in English Literature

The Dickey Fellowship in Poetry

You'll find yourself at home at USC, where graduate students comprise one-third of the student population, centrally situated in a beautiful, medium-sized city named #1 for graduate education in a national survey.
